Position Description –  Campus Election Engagement Project Assistant

(June –December 2018)

This limited term position, 10-15 hours per week during academic year and up to 20 hours per week June – August, will work to engage Illinois Campus Compact member institution students, faculty and staff in the 2018 elections.  This non-partisan project will help provide CEEP resources for institutional commitments to election engagement, support faculty and staff programming, and assist college students in registering to vote, getting educated on issues, volunteering in the campaigns, and showing up at the polls. This person will also help recruit and manage student fellows on campuses receiving grant money.

Position Responsibilities:

• Conduct outreach to college and university administrators, faculty and staff, building on the strong and ongoing relationships that we have with colleges and universities in our state, including:
  • Engage campuses to take the CEEP Assessment Survey which helps schools benchmark their strength of electoral engagement.
  • Distributing templates for student IDs that pass the requirements of challenging new voter laws, enabling students to register and vote without needing to purchase a state ID;
  • Ensuring that new students get registered at first-year orientation;
  • Linking to registration tool in online event ticketing and course registration systems, and having campus IT departments distribute a new election information Smartphone app
  • Collaborating with campus newspaper advisors to help student newspapers distribute nonpartisan voter guides.
  • Work with staff and student leaders to build programs to register students to vote and drive them to the polls on election day.
• Coordinate and support ILCC CEEP Grant award recipients

Desired Qualifications:

• Graduate student in Higher Education or related field
• Motivated self-starter who is comfortable working via online and email formats and with telephone outreach;
• Excellent organization; written and oral communication skills;
• Effective time management skills;
• Experience and interest in higher education civic engagement initiatives.

You’ll be coached, mentored, and trained by Illinois Campus Compact staff, and by CEEP’s national staff, focusing on how to engage these administrators, faculty and staff using CEEP-created resource lists of effective nonpartisan ways schools can help their students get involved. You’ll build on these resources and relationships to help schools implement powerful engagement approaches.

This person will be asked to join CEEP Staff calls and other peer check-ins/reporting required by all CEEP staff members.
